Toto had only recently taken over the supply of 43,000 customers following the fall of another supplier just 2 months ago. Customers have been assured that their energy supply will not be affected and will continue as normal.
Ofgem is in the process of selecting a new provider for Toto customers and has advised customers to not switch to another energy provider until a replacement one has first been appointed.
Philippa Pickford, Ofgem’s director advised:
Toto Energy customers do not need to worry, as under our safety net we’ll make sure your energy supplies are secure and customers’ credit balances are protected. Ofgem will now choose a new supplier for you and whilst we’re doing this our advice is to sit tight and don’t switch.
Toto energy follows 15 other energy suppliers that have gone out of business this year. The energy firms’ closure is mainly due to the failure of meeting a £4m payment for renewable green energy to Ofgem.
Following this, the energy ombudsman has confirmed that this year 730 complaints have been made against Toto Energy, however, due to the company’s closure any ongoing cases will not likely be completed and no new claims are being accepted.
Toto Energy joins GB Energy, Economy Energy and Spark Energy who have also ceased trading and worries are now increasing for Robin Hood Energy, Gnergy and Delta Gas and Power who have also missed the £4m payment for renewable energy.
