The newly established option allows customers to place their order online and then pay the total at a participating Western Union location. Once the order is placed, the customer receives a code which then must present to the Western Union agent along with their ID. After payment, the order gets shipped to the delivery address specified during the checkout process.
Amazon PayCode is currently available in the following countries: USA, Barbados, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Federated States of Micronesia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Palau, Peru, Philippines, Kenya, Taiwan, Tanzania, Thailand, and Uruguay.
This service comes as an addition to the first cash payment option Amazon rolled out two years ago, Amazon Cash, which allows customers to add cash to their Amazon balance at over 100,000 participating stores worldwide. The main difference between the two services is that with PayCode customers can place the order first before paying the amount in cash, this way they will not miss out on flash deals and other types of offers.
This is all part of Amazon’s effort to make online shopping more accessible to lower budget shoppers especially in countries where cash payments are still used for most transactions. As the Director of Global Payment Acceptance & Customer Experience at Amazon, Ben Volk commented:
We’re constantly innovating to improve the shopping experience on behalf of our customers, and are proud to expand Amazon Paycode to customers in the U.S. Customers have told us they love the convenience of paying in cash. Together with Western Union, we’re able to offer customers more shopping choices, enabling them to pay for their online purchases in a way that is convenient for them.
