Following the EU settlement scheme in May 165,000 EU citizens have applied to stay in Britain bringing the total number to 788,200 as of May 31 according to figures of the Home Office.

Almost 700,00 people have been successful in obtaining settled status. Immigration Minister Caroline Nokes comments “The EU Settlement Scheme is making really good progress and more than 800,000 people have already applied, with almost 700,000 granted status.

The scheme is simple and free and EU citizens have until at least December 31, 2020, to apply so we are well on track to deliver on our promise to protect the rights of EU citizens.

The home office figures reveal that the highest applicants are from those with Polish nationality, followed by Romanian and then Italian. Applications are also available to those from Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Norway – countries in the EEA but not a member of the EU.

For those who have lived less than five years in the UK the option to apply for pre-settles status which can later be processed into a settled status is available.
